Over the weekend of May 9th-10th, Stepping Stones staff, students and parents were involved in the COINS Three Peaks Challenge. The challenge is to ascend and descend Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours, legs and lungs willing! SS entered two teams in the event and all 8 members completed the task, with humour still intact.
Team 1 finished in 22 hours 8 minutes and Team 2 in 27 hours 9 minutes. The school minibus was fairly unsavoury after 1300 miles and many changes of walking socks. All 12 students travelled to Wales on Saturday and each completed their own walking challenge on the hill on Sunday. They welcomed every team back and helped distribute the medals. They were there to cheer on the SS teams as they returned late in the evening and all managed their fair share of the pig that was roasted on the spit. For some, it was their first experience of being away from home without parents and everyone had a wonderful time.
The staff team of Georgina, Ali, Shirley, Ross and Katy was supplemented by several parents who kindly gave of their time to support us. Both buses reached school by 16.00 on Monday, tired but proud of all our efforts.
Team 1 members Neil Clark Paul Stanley Steve Vaughan Nick Ronaasen
Team 2 Maggie and Ian Shaw Tim Ledger Alison Johnson
Drivers Mark Evans Mark Shore (to whom special thanks are due)
These photographs will give you a flavour of the experience that we all enjoyed so much.
